He is the Director of Leadership Development for Youth Laboratory\, which is the first online library of courses dedicated to youth professional and leadership development. His family’s connection to the United States began in 1930s\, but his father was able to make the journey in 1957. Shaker grew up in Yemen\, but settled in NYC in 1987 and it has been his home since then. In NYC\, he completed his high school education\, graduated with a B.S. in Geology from Brooklyn College\, and then M.S. in Secondary Science Education from LIU and a Doctorate in Educational Technology from Pace University. Although his undergraduate education was pointing him toward a science field job as a geologist\, his passion for teaching and education pulled him to the NYC public school system. As an educator working for the public school system\, he worked as teacher\, and a district administrator serving the children of the NYC public school system for more than 15 years. Dr. Lashuel is currently in Saudi Arabia working for a foundation that supports higher education. He has written many articles focusing on community issues and education\, and published two books “Yemeni American Stories”\, and “Steps to Contentment”. DESCRIPTION:The American Association of Yemeni Students and Professional\, AAYSP\, is honored to invite you to attend the AAYSP 9th Annual Scholarship Gala. In the past eight years\, AAYSP has awarded over 200 scholarships to some of the most highly qualified high school seniors and undergraduate students. Last year\, we were able to give out 25 scholarships with the help of generous community members. \nThe keynote speaker is Aneesa Muthana\, President and Co-owner of Pioneer Service Inc. \nPioneer Service Inc. is a Certified Women-Owned Business in Addison\, Illinois that has provided over 25 years of manufacturing excellence. Aneesa serves on the board of directors for the CRGC\, PMPA\, VIA\, and IMEC. A truly passionate and ambitious entrepreneur\, Aneesa has built her company on the strengths of collaboration\, acclamation\, interpersonal-skills\, management\, and so much more.

DESCRIPTION:We are excited to start a new year of AAYSP Mentoring Program at Edsel Ford High School. We hope that you join us this year. Please click on the following link to register for this year mentoring program: \nhttps://goo.gl/eECWP4 \nThe goal of this program is to offer the students guidance\, support and encouragement aimed at developing each student’s competence and character by engaging in fun activities that explore various themes of self-confidence\, communication\, decision- making\, and academic success. \nThis is a monthly mentoring Program at Edsel Ford High School. Mentors get to meet and work with three students throughout the year. They meet once a month from 7:00 am to 8:30.

DESCRIPTION:AAYSP 8th Annual Scholarship Gala \nIn this year’s scholarship gala\, we will be giving out multiple $500 scholarships to qualified high school and undergraduate students. We also will be giving awards to teachers\, community members\, professionals\, and administrators for their hard work in this community. \nOur Keynote speaker will be Dr. Miriam Deborah Ezzani\, a clinical associate professor in the department of Teacher Education and Administration at the University of North Texas. With academic and professional roots in urban education\, her area of scholarship is in educational justice within the context of organizational leadership\, professional learning\, and district and school reform. Ezzani’s research on organizational leadership and culturally proficient leadership is concerned with how leaders in districts and schools fulfill their ethical promise to provide equitable opportunities for students who have long been underserved. \nIf you have any questions\, please email treasurermi@aaysp.org
