Director of Public Relations
Ayyad Algabyali is a first-generation Yemeni American who grew up in Harlem, NY. Ayyad holds a bachelor degree in political science, international studies and history from The City College of New York (CCNY). He chose these fields because of his passion for learning effective ways to promote collaboration among diverse groups, build coalitions, and find fair solutions to common issues facing diverse communities. While an undergrad at the Colin Powell School, Ayyad completed internships with former New York City Public Advocate Letitia James, Congressman Jerrold Nadler of New York’s District 10, and The US State Department at the US Embassy in Saudi Arabia. Ayyad was the Director of Advocacy at the Yemeni American Merchants Association (YAMA) where he served as the organizations’ principal advocate of city, state, and federal government affairs. He advocated policy priorities and implementing strategies serving the Yemeni-American community such as the NO BAN Act legislation and the famous Boycott New York Post campaign. Currently, he is working at the Mayor's Office as a Neighborhood Organizer, where he connects immigrant New Yorkers with City resources and services and advocates on their behalf in City government. In addition, Ayyad was selected as an Alumni Ambassador for the 2020-2021 Gilman Alumni Ambassador Program. ‘Ayyad’, means in his native Arabic language ‘one who leads.’ He aspires to be a public service leader and serve people of all backgrounds.
