Hi, my name is Jamilah Alhashidi. I am a first generation college student and the first in my family to pursue medicine. I was born in Yemen, but immigrated to the United States as a baby. I graduated as Valedictorian from Universal Academy in 2010 before going to The University of Michigan – Dearborn on a full-tuition scholarship. During my time there, I volunteered with multiple organizations and was president of multiple student organizations, while also working 2 jobs. I graduated with honors with two Bachelors degrees in biology and psychology. I applied to medical school and was accepted on my first attempt to multiple schools and another full tuition scholarship, Ilhamdillah. I graduated medical school in 2019 and started my residency at Beaumont Hospital in Family Medicine. As an intern, I was awarded Intern of the Year and OB intern of the year. Most recently, I was voted to be Chief resident for 2021-2022. Throughout my journey, I have felt fortunate to be able to follow my dream and would love to help others do the same whether they are pursuing medicine or just higher education.
